Squared

All quilt’s should be squared before attaching your binding. Do you Know how to square your quilt? Lay our your top and measure across the width in three places. If all measurement are the same great. If not look at why and adjust according. Repeat for the length. I

TOO COOL

Thank you to Irene for showing me this TOO COOL wrap. I can think of so many uses for it. Simple to sew. Great use of scraps. Cut a 5 inch strip of fabric 24 inches long. Sew right sided together along all sides leaving an opening to turn inside out. Turn inside out. Sew accross the strip in 5 inchess from the end on both ends. Fill with 2 tsp. of moist soil mix. Close opening and your done. Soak in water to hydate the moist soil and it will keep moist for hours. Great for outside activites or hot flashes!

Patience the Sittin’ Chicken

Sittin and waitin- it’s something we all have to do. Make this patient peaceful hen stuffed and fat or patched and flat. Either way she’s a good reminder to slow down and wait for good things to come.

Pick up your pattern and create it anyway you want. Use the design for a block, appliqué, tablerunner, tea cozy, whatever.

Drop off by April 15th for customers to view and select a winner. The winner will receive a free service on their sewing machine. Let’s be inspired and see those sittin’ chickens.

How do you measure up?

You probably know that a ‘fat quarter’ is a cut of fabric that measures 18×22” {that’s a half yard cut in half at the fold}. They’re wonderful for scrap quilts or appliqué, where you need an assortment of colors to choose from. Too often, we’re afraid to cut into them because they look so nice!

Next time you’re planning a project, use this cutting guide to help you put your fat quarters to work.

99 - 2” squares
56 - 2 ½” squares
42 - 3” squares
30 - 3 ½” squares
20 - 4” squares
16 - 4 ½” squares
12 - 5”squares
9 - 6” squares
6 - 6 ½” squares

Choosing fabrics with ease!

When choosing background fabrics, use a variety; plaids, stripes, and lots of florals. Lay the fabric out (uncut) on the floor or design wall, leaving it there overnight. The next day, decide if any of the fabrics look out of place, or if the color is wrong. Substitute another fabric and you’re ready to piece a spectacular background!

Keep it clean.

Try cleaning your rotary mat with an art gum eraser found at your local artists supply store. It will pull the fibers out of the mat without gumming it up and leaves no residue.
